Amir Cup Basketball: Opening wins for Qatar SC and Al Khor

The Amir Cup Men’s Basketball Championship for the 2023-2024 season commenced on Saturday with Qatar SC and Al Khor securing wins in Group A at the Al-Gharafa Club hall.
Qatar SC overcame a tough challenge from Al Wakrah claiming a narrow 79-77 victory in the opening match while Al Khor prevailed over Al Gharafa 97-78 in the other match.
Al Arabi (the league champion this season) are the other team in the group while Al Ahli (the runner-up), Al Rayyan, Al Sadd, and Al Shamal are in Group B.
The tournament follows a league system, where each group will compete in a single round.
In the second round, the second-placed team from the first group will face the third-placed team from the second group, and vice versa.
Additionally, the first-placed team from the second group will compete against the winner of the first match in the second round, while the first-placed team from the first group will face the winner of the second match in the second round, leading to the semi-finals.
The semi-finals will be held in a five-match playoff system, with the two winners needing to win three out of five matches to qualify for the final round. The final match, which will determine the champion, is scheduled to take place on May 24.
The first rounds of the tournament will continue until April 27. Following that, the two second round matches will be held on April 30. The semi-final matches are scheduled for May 4, 7, 11, 14, and 18.
Finally, the highly anticipated final match will take place on May 24.
