England through to last-16 after eliminating Wales with 3-0 victory

England topped group B with a 3-0 win to eliminate Wales at Ahmad bin Ali Stadium on Tuesday night.

Marcus Rashford fired a free kick past Wales’ Danny Ward just after half time, with Phil Foden doubling his side’s lead less than a minute later. Rashford added insult to injury when he cut in from the right-hand side, adding his second of the night, as Ward let the ball slip through his legs.

Not only did Wales need to beat England, they also needed Iran and the USA to settle for a draw in order for their side to progress in the competition.

England, who now face Senegal in the last 16, ensured this wouldn’t happen, as they dominated throughout and took full control going into the second half.

Group B end the group stages with England at the top on 7 points. The USA sit in second place on five points, while Iran and Wales bow out of the competition, sitting in third place with three points, and fourth place with one point, respectively.

England will now face Senegal in the Round of 16 on Sunday night at 10pm at Al Khor’s Al Bayt Stadium.
