USA v Wales Preview

Mayes Yousef

Tonight at 22:00 Doha time, Wales will make their first FIFA World Cup appearance in 64 years, when they face the USA in the tournament’s Group B fixture. The match will take place at Ahmad bin Ali Stadium.

Wales have played in every World Cup qualifying campaign, but only qualified for the finals in 1958 and 2022. Back in 1958, the Welsh reached the quarterfinals before being eliminated by Brazil, who went on to win the tournament.

The USA returns to the World Cup after missing the 2018 edition, when they lost to Trinidad and Tobago in their final qualifier. Following their qualification, USA beat Morocco and Grenada and earned a draw against Uruguay. They haven’t played a friendly since September 2022.

The USA just made it to this year’s tournament, after securing an automatic qualification, finishing ahead of Costa Rica. They have also made it out of the group stage in four of their last seven World Cup appearances.
