Sheikh Joaan attends opening ceremony of GCC Games

H.E President of the Qatar Olympic Committee (QOC) Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad Al-Thani attended the opening ceremony of the third GCC Games held at the Arena Kuwait on Sunday.

The opening ceremony was attended by H.H. Kuwait's Prime Minister Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled Al-Sabah and presidents of the GCC Olympic Committees.

In attendance also were H.E QOC First Vice President Mohamed bin Yousef Al Mana, H.E QOC Second Vice President Dr. Thani bin Abdulrahman Al-Kuwari and H.E QOC Secretary General Jassim bin Rashid Al Buenain.

The ceremony began with the Kuwaiti national anthem then President of the Kuwait Olympic Committee Sheikh Fahad Nasser Sabah Al Ahmad Al Sabah delivered his speech. The opening ceremony also focused lights on women's role in Kuwait's development.

The GCC Games which began on May 16, feature the participation of more than 1700 athletes competing in 16 sports including athletics, 3x3 basketball, basketball, cycling (road), e-sports, fencing, futsal, handball, ice hockey, judo, karate, padel, shooting, swimming, tennis, table tennis and volleyball.

The state of Qatar is represented by 170 athletes.
