Qatar is committed to delivering a successful FIFA Arab Cup Qatar 2021 and the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022. The expansion and development projects at Hamad International Airport (HIA) and Doha International Airport are testimony to this.

Prime Minister and Minister of Interior H E Sheikh Khalid bin Khalifa bin Abdulaziz Al Thani paid a visit to both the airports to witness the progress of the projects. H E the Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, during his visit to HIA, was briefed about the multi-stage expansion plans being implemented at the airport as part of the completion plan of its construction, in line with the main plan of the airport project. H E was also briefed on the developments of the projects of the central area, which includes the passenger terminal and duty free, and the west side, which includes taxiways, aircraft parking lots, baggage handling building, and jet fuel buildings.

The expansion of the current phase, which will end next year, will serve the guests of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022. The expansion will ensure HIA can accommodate the expected 60 million passengers that will be flying to Qatar during FIFA World Cup. The expansion will ensure guests flying to Qatar will be able to enjoy the amazing facilities available at HIA.

HIA has introduced multiple virus mitigation systems to ensure the airport is safe and secure for 2022. Safety measures at airport terminals were strengthened with fully autonomous disinfectant robots and advanced thermal screening helmets. HIA was also one of the first few global airports to offer a contactless and paperless airport experience with the introduction of biometric identification technology, in addition to touchless elevator keys.

H E the Prime Minister and Minister of Interior also toured Doha International Airport, during which he was briefed on the ongoing infrastructure development projects and the various facilities, in addition to security and safety procedures and airport preparations to facilitate the arrival of the visitors participating in FIFA Arab Cup Qatar 2021 and the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022.

The FIFA Arab Cup, taking place exactly a year before the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022, is seen as a test event for football’s showpiece event. The finals of both events are set to take place on December 18 – Qatar’s National Day.

In the run-up to these events, Qatar is leaving no stone unturned to ensure the safety of visitors and travellers, setting new standards and benchmarks for international travel, which will offer everyone a worry-free and pleasureful journey.
