The Omani national team qualified for the decisive round of the Asian Double qualifiers for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar and the 2023 Asian Cup in China, after their victory over Bangladesh 3-0 today at Jassim bin Hamad Stadium in Doha, as part of the last round of Group E competitions in the second round of the tournament playoffs.
Muhammad Al-Ghafri scored the first goal in the 22nd minute, then Khaled Al-Hajri added the second and third goals in the 60th and 80th minutes.
The second match in the same group witnessed a 1-1 draw with Afghanistan at the same stadium.
The Omani team have 18 points in second place behind the Qatari team, the leader of the group who are pre-qualified (22 points). The Omani qualified to the final round as one of the best teams that came in second place, and the India team got seven points, six for Afghanistan and two points for Bangladesh.
The first place in each group qualifies for the final round of World Cup qualifiers, along with the five best second-placed teams in the eight groups, and these teams will also get the qualification for the 2023 Asian Cup finals in China.
In the rest of the qualifying results, the Saudi team booked its place in the decisive qualifying round for the 2022 World Cup and the Asian Cup finals in China in 2023, after its explicit victory over its Uzbek counterpart 3-0 at the end of the fourth group competitions.
