Qatar faces India For AFC 2023 Qualification

The Qatari national team will meet its Indian counterpart on June 3, Thursday, at Jassim bin Hamad Stadium in Al Sadd Club, as part of the Group E matches in the Asian joint qualifiers qualifying for the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 and the Asian Nations Cup China 2023 which will be held in the assembly system in Doha June 3 - June 15, with the participation of the teams of Qatar, Oman, India, Bangladesh and Afghanistan.

Qatar, the leader of Group E with 16 points from 6 matches and is looking to win and get close to secure the qualification for the 2023 Asian Cup, where the team needs to win and draw in its last two matches in the group in order to ensure direct qualification to the continental finals that it holds.

The Qatari national team is not focused on the 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifiers, after ensuring qualification as the host.

On the other hand, India, ranked 4th in the group with 3 points from 5 matches, is seeking to achieve a positive result in light of its draw with Qatar in the first leg match that was held in India.

In the same group, Bangladesh, which is ranked last in the group with one point from 5 matches, will meet with the third Afghanistan with 4 points from five matches, while Oman, which is second with 12 points from 5 matches, goes to rest.

The remaining seven matches of Group E will witness a partial public attendance of 30 percent of Jassim bin Hamad Stadium, which hosts the competition, according to strict precautionary measures after the gradual lifting of the restrictions imposed to limit the spread of the Coronavirus (COVID-19).

The Qatari coach, Felix Sanchez, confirmed his team's readiness during the past few days to participate in the double Asian qualifiers, looking forward to achieving a positive result and winning the match against India tomorrow and getting closer to direct qualification to the Asian Nations Cup finals in China.

Sanchez said, in a press statement, that the match against India will not be easy, especially since the first match in the Indian capital was difficult, pointing out that the players are excited to play this match, and will spare no effort to win.

He explained that he follows all the competing teams and monitors all their advantages and disadvantages, pointing out that the team will play two important matches and look forward to winning to settle the qualification points for the Asian Cup.

The coach of the Qatari national team considered that holding matches in light of the Coronavirus pandemic is a negative thing, but it is beyond everyone's will, stressing the need to deal with the current situation and to provide the best on the field.
