Reigning Asian champions Qatar will take on India in Group E match on June 3 as the joint 2022 FIFA World Cup 2023 AFC Asian Cup qualifiers resume early next month, the Qatar Football Association (QFA) announced yesterday.

The match will be played at Jassim Bin Hamad Stadium with kick off set for 8:00pm. Al Annabi’s other group game against Oman is scheduled on June 7 at the same venue.

In addition to these games, Qatar will also host all the remaining Group E matches after being picked by the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) as a centralised venue amid the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

Coached by Felix Sanchez, Qatar are leading Group E with 16 points from six games followed by Oman (12 points from five matches) and Afghanistan (4 points). India are fourth in the standings with 3 points while Bangladesh are on the bottom with a solitary point.

Sanchez earlier this week announced a 27-member squad for the upcoming matches. The squad also includes star striker Akram Afif, who missed weeks of action due to injury.
