The Qatari Ministry of Sports and Culture announced the opening of registration for the ‘Qatar East to West Ultra Marathon’ the 90 km running challenge.

The challenge will be held on Friday, December 11th, with the scheduled starting point beginning at Doha Corniche, all the way to the finish line on the beach in Dukhan, so that the contestants cross the country from east to west.

Abdullah Al-Dossary, representative of the Qatar Sports for All Federation, said that the federation aims to organize this event to spread the culture of sport among all members of society and urge them to participate in the challenge, not just professional runners.

The race includes five stations of varying distances, in addition to stations for water supply. The option to participate is open to all, either by registering as a team consisting of no more than 5 contestants or as individuals. The registration process can be done through the Qatar Sports Federation for All application.

Al-Dossary emphasized that this event - which comes this year under the supervision of the Qatari Ministry of Culture and Sports and the Qatar Sports Federation for All - aims to expand the scope of sporting practice in the State of Qatar, and it is part of several daily and quarterly sports activities that the federation supports.

He indicated that another press conference will be held days before the start of the challenge, to discuss the logistics and explain all the details related to the stops and the route set for running.

The contestants must finish the distance before the 16-hour run-off from 4:30 am to 8:30 pm, with each participant receiving a medal and a certificate.

The organizers of this challenge aim to make the "The Qatar East-to-West Ultra Marathon" a global race that attracts participants from all over the world and thus spread the culture of long-distance running within the State of Qatar.

This is the fourth edition of the challenge, as the first race was organized by the "Qatar Long Distance Runners" team in December 2017 with the participation of 30 runners, then the second edition, more broadly, amounted to nearly 100 in 2018, then the third edition with the participation of 240 competitors became officially under the supervision of the Qatari Ministry of Culture and Sports and the Qatar Sports for All Federation.

The projected number of participants for this year’s edition is expected to reach more than 300 runners.
