HH the Father Amir Camel Racing Sword Festival to begin on January 29

The Camel Racing Organizing Committee announced the details of the annual HH the Father Amir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al-Thani sword festival for purebred Arabian camels, which will take place over seven days at Al Shahaniya and Basir camel racetracks from Jan. 29 to Feb. 4, amid wide participation from GCC countries.

The committee stated that valuable prizes will be allocated to the winners over the course of 286 runs during the seven days of the festival, with 28 silver symbols, most notably the silver sword, and 171 cars.

The committee added the total cash prizes for all symbols runs has been raised to 2.5 million Qatari riyals for the first place holders in all the Bakkar symbols runs, and the winner in the Qadan symbols runs will get 1 million riyals in all major runs.

The festival will witness the holding of three runs for the age groups (18-45 years) for the human rider, where the committee allocated 3 cars to first place for the three runs, with one car for each winner, and cash prizes for the winners of the places from the second to the fifteenth.

The Camel Racing Organizing Committee has recently been keen to hold heritage camel races within the activities of major festivals, in order to preserve the heritage sport.
