QNB Stars League Week 15 Review

QSL

The 2020-21 season QNB Stars League’s Week 15 action, held on Tuesday and Wednesday (19th and 20th January, 2021), saw excitement galore. A total of 15 goals were scored and three matches produced drawn results.

The results were:
Al Wakrah lost to Al Rayyan 0-3
Qatar SC drew Al Duhail       1-1
Umm Salal drew Al Arabi      0-0
Al Kharaitiyat lost to Al Gharafa    1-2
Al Sailiya drew Al Ahli 0-0
Al Sadd beat Al Khor   7-0

Red cards were shown to three players – Ibrahim Nasser Kalla of Al Arabi, Saeed Al Hajj of Al Gharafa and Mohanad Ali (Mimi) of Al Sailiya.

Mohanad’s suspension came in the very second minute of Al Sailiya’s game against Al Ahli. However, The Peregrines hung on to a goalless draw despite the numerical disadvantage.

Al Ahli and Al Sailiya stood in the six and eighth position with 23 and 19 points respectively.

Al Rayyan made the most of their 3-0 victory over Al Wakrah as The Lions stormed back into the top four from the fifth position with 25 points, while Al Wakrah remained 10th with 14 points.

Franck Kom, Yohan Boli and Shojae Khalilzadeh scored Al Rayyan’s goals.

Al Sadd extended their lead on top from 11 to 13 points over second-placed reigning champions Al Duhail after they beat Al Khor 7-0. Rodrigo Tabata led the scoring with a hat-trick and Baghdad Bounedjah netted a double. Santiago Cazorla and Ali Asad were the other scorers as Al Sadd notched up their 13th victory to be on 41 points.

Al Khor remained on 10 points following their ninth defeat.

Meanwhile, Al Duhail’s campaign to retain the league shield suffered another blow after they were held to a 1-1 draw by Qatar SC.

Al Duhail stood second with 28 points, while Qatar SC slipped from fourth to fifth place with 24 points.

In fact, that was the only change in the ranking table as Al Rayyan and Qatar SC swapped positions.

Al Gharafa moved on to 27 points following their 2-1 win over Al Kharaitiyat, with captain Moiad Hassan scoring two quick goals to give his side their eighth win. Mensah Evans had put Al Kharaitiyat ahead.

Al Gharafa stood third, but Al Kharaitiyat’s misery worsened as they are still the basement side with six points.

Umm Salal and Al Arabi played out a goalless draw to remain in the ninth and seventh spot with 15 and 20 points respectively.

The QNB Stars League will now take a break and Week 16 fixtures have been scheduled for 13th and 14th February.
