Al Markhiya overcame Umm Salal 2-1 in a postponed match from Week 8 of the 2022-2023 season QNB Stars League at the Al Duhail Stadium on Saturday.
Umm Salal took the lead as early as the fourth minute through Nasser Al Nasr, but Al Markhiya struck back through Driss Fettouhi’s goals in the 35th and 40th minutes.
Al Markhiya now have 15 points, while Umm Salal stood on nine points.
The victory, their fourth this season, was a great relief for Al Markhiya, who came into the match after two consecutive losses, against Al Duhail and Al Arabi.
Umm Salal, who were held to draws in their last two matches, could not sustain the momentum after taking an early lead.
Al Markhiya slowly and steadily came back into the game and they managed to score their goals inside five minutes through Fettouhi’s individual brilliance.
Umm Salal tried to come back in the second half, but their task proved difficult. They could not really threaten the rival goal despite having more possession.
On the other hand, Al Markhiya’s attacks were dangerous and they even came close to a third goal.
The defeat puts Umm Salal in a real spot of bother as they are lying at the bottom of the table with only one victory to show for their efforts.
