Qatar SC overcame Al Wakrah by a 2-1 margin in Week 14 of the 2022-2023 season QNB Stars League at the Al Gharafa Stadium on Wednesday.
Sebastian Soria (third minute) and Jassim Al Jalabi (43rd minute) scored for Qatar SC. Yousef Abdulrazaq scored for Al Wakrah in the sixth minute.
Qatar SC raised their score to 22 points, while Al Wakrah remained on 18 points.
Al Wakrah were reduced to 10 men in the 83rd minute when Hazem Ahmed picked up a second yellow card.
The match was fought hard from the technical point of view and Qatar SC dominated the first half, while Al Wakrah mostly called the shots in the second half.
Qatar SC succeeded in taking advantage of the first opportunity of the match as Soria found the target evading the offside trap.
Al Wakrah hit back fast and Abdulrazaq converted a Jacinto Dala pass to goal.
As the match wore on and excitement rose, both teams launched raids and Qatar SC turned out to be well-organized in the midfield, thanks to the movements of Bashar Resan, who wreaked havoc in the Al Wakrah area.
On the other hand, Al Wakrah did not lag behind, but they failed to take advantage of the opportunities.
As the first half drew to a close, Al Jalabi capitalized on a defensive mistake and succeeded in putting the ball over the goalkeeper’s head into the net.
Al Wakrah tried hard for a second equaliser, but wasted three successive chances with Dala and Mohamed Benyettou at the helm.
Meanwhile, Qatar SC were forced to retreat and relied on counter-attacks. The Kings proved dangerous at times and their victory margin would have swelled had it not been for the brilliance of rival goalkeeper Saoud Al Khater.
