Al-Ajami cruises to Big Tour victory, al-Qadi shines

Faleh Suwead al-Ajami pumped his fist in delight after his 17-year-old bay Ghana cleared the final fence as the pair clinched the Big Tour class during the 10th round of the Qatar Equestrian Tour - Longines Hathab yesterday.

At Longines Arena at Al Shaqab, al-Ajami and Ghana stopped the clock in 31.66 seconds in the jump off after having completed the first round in 68.56 seconds with four faults. With the victory, al-Ajami has 255 points and closed the gap on Big Tour overall leader Mohamed Khalifa Albaker, who finished fourth with Demilion yesterday has 260 points.

Sheikh Khalifa al-Thani astride Serendipity was second in 32.44 secs, while Ghanim Nasser al-Qadi was third with S I E C Lonnie in 32.63 secs.

Earlier, al-Qadi, riding Quick Step, had emerged triumphant in Open Class in a time of 49.70. Khalid Mohamed al-Emadi with Mira V/D Roshoeve ended up runner-up with a time of 51.12. Saeed Hamad Jumaa, astride 714 Ambre De Beaufour, finished third after clocking 51.71.
