Morocco shock Spain on penalties to reach World Cup quarter-finals

Morocco took on Spain this evening at Education City Stadium as part of the Round of 16.

Morocco topped their group ahead of the knock-out stages, with Spain coming in second in their group. Spain dominated possession for the majority of the match with both teams having one shot on target.

After 90 minutes of play, the teams headed into extra time. Throughout extra time, Spain were looking for a goal and a win, as they continued to dominate possession.

After extra time ended with a goalless draw,  it headed to penalties.

It was Morocco's first shootout at a World Cup finals, and Spain's fifth. 

The best chance of the half came when Morocco defender Nayef Aguerd headed over from close range.

Spain, the 2010 World Cup champions just could not find a breakthrough within the 90 minutes, although they were dominant for most of them. 

Morocco won 3-0 on penalties., reaching the World Cup quarter-finals for the first time, where they will face the winner of Portugal and Switzerland, who play later tonight.
