Cameroon eliminated despite victory over Brazil

Cameroon achieved their first-ever win over Brazil at Lusail Stadium on Friday night, as their FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 campaign came to an end.

Vincent Aboubakar headed the winner in stoppage time, before being handed a second yellow for taking his shirt off.

With his side having already qualified after their first two games, Brazil coach Tite made 10 changes to rest his first 11. Arsenal's Gabriel Martinelli had a great game, having several efforts thwarted by Cameroon keeper Devis Epassy.

Cameroon had played well throughout, with Bryan Mbuemo having had a brilliant chance saved by Manchester City's Ederson, but Switzerland's 3-2 victory over Serbia ended their chances of reaching the last 16.

Group G end the group stages with Brazil at the top on six points, while Switzerland sit in second, also on six points. Cameroon and Serbia bow out of the competition, sitting in third place with four points, and fourth place with one point, respectively.

Brazil will now face South Korea in the Round of 16 on Monday night at 10pm at Stadium 974, while Switzerland will come up against Portugal on Tuesday at Lusail Stadium.
