Cameroon vs Serbia Preview

The second round of Group G matches will get underway today, as Cameroon take on Serbia at Al Wakrah’s Al Janoub Stadium. Both sides are yet to earn a point, with Cameroon suffering a 1-0 defeat to Brazil in their opening match, while Serbia were downed 2-0 by South American heavyweights Brazil.

The sides have only met once before, in an international friendly in 2010, which Serbia won 4-3, however they have never played one another competitively.

Serbia have never won a World Cup game against an African side, losing 3-2 to Cote d’Ivoire in 2006, and Ghana in 2010. Meanwhile, Cameroon have lost their last eight World Cup games across four tournaments (2002, 2010, 2014 and 2022). Without a win today, Cameroon would match the record for the longest ever losing run at a World Cup – a record set by Mexico when they lost 9 in a row between 1930 and 1958. Serbia, on the other hand, have lost eight of their last ten World Cup games, giving them the highest loss percentage of any side to have played ten games in the competition.

Currently, Brazil have three points and top group G on goal difference, and Switzerland sit in second, also with three points. Cameroon are in third on zero points, and Serbia sit bottom of the group with zero points.

The match kicks off at 1pm Doha time.
