An avid football fan, Lee Kormish, is in Qatar to attend the FIFA World Cup and aspires to break a Guinness World Record for most matches attended in a single tournament.

Kormish, from Saskatchewan in Canada, will attempt to break a Guinness World Record for most matches attended at a FIFA World Cup by an individual.

"I look forward to you following me and meeting some of you on my journey. It's gonna be a great month. World Cup is here. Can you feel it? I feel it. I'm ready," said Kormish in a video shared on his social media channels.

The aforementioned Guinness World Record is currently held by Thulani Ngcobo with 31 matches attended during the 2010 FIFA World Cup, including the July 11 final game in Johannesburg.

Kormish plans to top this record with 41 matches during the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar and document the journey on his YouTube channel and social media platforms.

His attempt will start when the first whistle blows during the inaugural match between Qatar and Ecuador at Al Bayt Stadium today, November 20, as Qatar makes history as the first-ever FIFA World Cup host in the Middle East and Arab world.

For his attempt to be a success, Kormish would need to get across the eight World Cup stadiums and have two witnesses to attest that he was watching the entire game.

The compact nature of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 is expected to benefit players and fans with the longest distance between the stadiums in Qatar is just 75 kilometres.
