Team Qatar named for Beach Handball World Championship

The Qatar Handball Federation yesterday announced the men's beach handball squad for the upcoming World Championships which will be held in Greece from June 21 to 27.

The list includes 18 players, namely, Sayed Kenawy, Abdel Razzaq Murad, Amir Danqir, Moatasem Abdel Wahed, Mohamed Hassan Saleh, Hadi Hamdoun, Omar Khaled, Ali Jarba, Ahmed Abdel Haq, Ahmed El Miniawy, Hani Kakhi, Rashid Youssef, Abdel Rahman Tariq, Ahmed Nader, and Hamdi Ayyad, Muhammad Ahmad Zaki, Mohsen Al Yafei and Ali Ahmad.

Team Qatar, runner up at the 2022 Asian Beach Handball Championship in Tehran, along with Iran, received direct tickets to the World Championship.

Al Annabi's place in the World Championship was guaranteed after they clinched four successive wins at the Asian Championship before suffering a 1-2 defeat at the hands of their Iranian counterparts in their last match. 

The team will start training tomorrow in preparation for the 16-team tournament which will be organised by Hellenic Handball Federation for the first time in history.

In their sixth appearance in the World Championship, Qatar will join the hosts Greece, defending champions Brazil, Egypt, Denmark, Croatia, Spain, Portugal, Argentina, Ecuador, Uruguay, New Zealand, Puerto Rico, United States, Iran and one wildcard entry.

The Qatari junior beach handball team has also qualified for the World Championship after coming third in the second Asian Junior Championships, which was held in Tehran in conjunction with the eighth Asian Championship for men.
